It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Evlyn, on July 2, 2017 at the age of 76. She is survived by her children, Donna Broschak of Sherwood Park, Dean (Trina) Turkawski of Radway and Denise Zielie of Edmonton; as well as 8 grand children and one great grand child. She also leaves to mourn her brothers, Jim (Elizabeth) Birtles of Mudgee, NSW, Australia, Kevin (Linda) Birtles of Melbourne, VIC, Australia and 5 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by our father, Mike, on February 9, 2017, her mother, Dulcie in 2004 and her father, Roland in 1965.

Mom’s love of travel and adventure took her from her home country of Australia to Europe where she met our dad in 1968. Her travels brought her to Canada where she married dad and her journey continued.

Mom was known for her incredible strength, positive attitude, encouragement and unconditional acceptance of others. She will be remembered for her beautiful gardens, her love of scrapbooking and reading and her knowledge of the world and current events.

Mom gave to and cared for others through her work as a registered nurse and made many unmentioned sacrifices as our mother and nanna.

We have peace and comfort knowing that she is with our dad, in a “beautiful” place, where we will all come together again.

It is as the little shadow that runs across the grass

and loses itself in the sunset.”

In Memorial
March 24, 1955 – July 2, 2017
After a courageous battle with cancer Doug passed away peacefully with family at his side on a beautiful summer day. Thanks to his many caregivers for their support throughout his difficult journey.

Doug was born and spent his early years in Jasper, a glorious mountain playground. There, he developed a connection to nature and mountains that stayed with him throughout his life.

He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education degree and worked as a highly successful biology teacher in Calgary and Red Deer. His enduring passion was outdoor adventure: hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, kayaking, biking, and especially skiing, from gentle cross country tours to the steep powder slopes of Rogers Pass.

His love of the mountains led him to create a cycle touring company in Revelstoke BC through which he brought the splendours of Mount Revelstoke National Park to people from around the world.

He was a great husband, caregiver, brother, friend, music lover, photographer, and story teller.

Doug leaves behind his wife Janice, his siblings Nancy, Jerry (Jean), Jim, Garry and Glen (Sonja), her siblings, Paul (Doug), David (Stella), John (Colleen), Elizabeth (Jason), his mother Muriel (Tony), along with a loving supportive extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends.

Nana’s Order  !!!…

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunshine on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

Valerie Kermode

Trinity Funeral Home | Edmonton ABinformation regarding Valerie Kermode

Valerie Kermode passed away on Saturday, July 8th, 2017. She is deeply loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

Val was born in Edmonton, AB, to Douglas and Audrey (Hunt) Kermode on January 29th, 1957. She was the fifth of six children. Embracing her education, she never ceased to learn and was widely loved in her family for her knowledge. Her successes included owning two franchises over the course of her life, as an owner, administrator, and accounting bookkeeper.

Throughout her life, Val constantly demonstrated her deep love for her family and friends in all the little ways that she remembered each and every one of us. From newspaper clippings and small personal sayings, to the wonderful dishes that you would add at holiday meals, she always sought to add to the joy of all those lucky enough to share their lives with her. Val was also an avid animal lover, from her own beloved cats, Ricky and Tessy, to all other animals that crossed her path.

Val loved to learn, and she shared this quality with her family. She constantly shared whatever she was learning generously, from scripture to the latest technology craze on t.v., she was always ready to discuss any topic just to share some time with her family.

Above all Valerie was a Christian and went to her Rest in the hope of rising again through God’s mercy. Her faith was a cornerstone in her life which she never forgot. We pray for her now as she often did for us. With great sorrow, and the belief in the mercy of God, we tearfully say goodbye to our beloved niece, sister, and aunt, until we are reunited in the Everlasting Kingdom.

Valerie is survived by her three sisters: Laurie West, Shelley Kermode, and Candace Theriaut, two brothers: Douglas Kermode and Rod Kermode, three nephews: Chad Kermode, Jason Hamelin, and Shane Kermode, two nieces: Hannah MacDonald-Kermode, and Rhonda Villeneuve, and her Aunt Doris LaBranche. She is missed deeply and loved always.
