Also by his siblings Al (Bernadette) Phillips, Rick (Marg) Phillips, and Mary McDonald. He is predeceased by his parents George and Alfreda (Irving) Phillips.
Dave had many friends and extended family from the East Coast to the West Coast and they will miss him.
Dave was a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, then became a City of Edmonton Police Constable where he met Margaret. He retired in 1997 and he and Margaret moved to Kingston New Brunswick. They worked their sawmill and land together for 20 years turning their property into their home and a little piece of paradise.  Dave was an excellent woodworker, loved to Garden, Read, walk, bike and loved being involved with politics and having good political discussions. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all.
I (Margaret) from the bottom of my heart, thank the staff at Miller’s Crossing Care home for their care of Dave during his time with you. A special thank-you to Mildred who is an exceptional caregiver! All the staff treated Dave with dignity and respect and in turn gave me peace of mind that at a time when I could no longer care for him myself, I knew that he was in good hands.
I would also like to thank the Staff at Citadel Care Home where Dave was moved to during his last month. Again, the staff are compassionate, caring people, and also gave me peace of mind. They helped me to fulfill a promise to Dave that I be at his side until the end of his life.
The people looking after our loved ones are truly all exceptional people and I will never forget you.
I would also like to thank my family for being there every step of the way.  I will forever be grateful.
Dave, I know that you are at peace now and are once again reunited with your parents. You will be with me in my heart forever. I will cherish the memories that we created together and will not begrude the ones we never made.
This is not good-bye, just so long for now, till we are together again.
There will be no services. His friends and family will all have different memories of Dave, and whatever those are, hold onto them. One day, we will all see each other again.

It is with great sadness that the family of David Allan Gaunce announces his sudden passing on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, at the young age of 39.

David will be lovingly remembered by the light of his life, his daughter Adelyn.  David will be missed by his mother Judy Gaunce and step-father Delmer White.  Brothers, Sean (Jill); Andrew (Jamie); step-brother Daniel White (Lisa).  David will be forever remembered by his special nieces Alana, Ashlee, Julia and nephews Cody, Riley and Nate; Uncle Ron Gaunce (Arlene) and Aunt Joan McLean (Dwain), several cousins and special friend Crystal Bradbury Anderson.

He was predeceased by his father Douglas A. Gaunce, grandparents Berton and Lillian Gaunce, Perley and Dorothy Robinson, and cousin Marilee McLean.

David was born in December 1980, and was raised in Fredericton, NB.  As a kid, David played hockey in the local FYHA and had a booming slapshot.  David  was a “lefty” golfer and could easily out play both his brothers.  He also played baseball growing up, David was a natural athlete and had great hand-eye coordination.  His other hobbies also included fishing and hunting.  David got his step-dad Delmer hooked on salmon fishing by helping him land his first big one on the Miramichi! David shared all these hobbies also with his two brothers, Andrew and Sean, and his father Doug.

David graduated from FHS in 1998 and remained in the Fredericton area until he graduated from Holland College’s Fire Fighting program in 2006.  It was this career that led David to pursue a job offer in Grande Prairie, Alberta.  Once established in Grande Prairie, David met Ashley Folwark, and together they welcomed Adelyn (Addy) into their lives in August, 2012.  Addy became as David put it “ she is the light of my life “.  Addy kept David busy these last 7 years  making fun memories  together, such as puzzles, board games, learning to skate, and bike riding.  David was most proud of Adelyn for how well she did in gymnastics and cheer.  David would update his family back in NB about Adelyn, his voice  beaming with excitement when he spoke of her.  One of David and Addy’s favourite things  would be to go to Dairy Queen for blizzards.  One of the last memorable moments David had with Addy, was in December, when together they spent the weekend in Edmonton to watch his lifetime favourite team the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Edmonton Oilers.

David had a huge heart and a gentle way.  He always brought a smile to the room with his easy going personality.  He loved his visits home to NB, his mom’s home cooking and hanging out with all of his nieces and nephews.  He was definitely the “cool uncle”!

At this time, due to the current health recommendations pertaining to large gatherings, a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

For those who wish, donations can be made in David’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.

Shirley Doreen Banash (nee Milbrandt)

It is with profound sadness and much love that we say goodbye to Shirley Doreen Banash at the age of 84 years. She was the heart of our family and leaves behind a legacy of perseverance and strength far greater than her physical stature. We are all blessed for having her as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and simply as a very special friend.

Shirley was born on August 6, 1935 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to August and Dolly Milbrandt. She was raised on the family farm near Springside, SK where she grew up with her only brother, Clarence. At the age of 24, Shirley left the farm for Edmonton, Alberta to start a career working at the Bank of Montreal on Jasper Ave. While attending the Edmonton Central Baptist Church she caught the attention of a young chap, Harvey, who was singing in the church choir. Harvey got a chance to introduce himself to her on the church steps and it was the start of a beautiful relationship. A few years later, on September 2, 1961, Shirley married Harvey back in her hometown, Springside.

They came back to live in Edmonton where all four of their children were born. As the home in Edmonton was getting too small they decided to move out to an acreage close to the Spruce Grove area in 1976. This is where Shirley really enjoyed many years of a huge garden and providing for her family, the most important job in the world. When the family acquired the Banash cottage at Alberta Beach, this became the summer hot spot. Shirley always enjoyed going out to the lake, which was a perfect venue for many family activities. They loved to get out on the lake with the boat trolling for fish with anyone who would go with them – especially the grandkids. Early family holidays were spent camping in the motorhome at Miette Hot Springs in Jasper and going back to Saskatchewan to visit family and friends. Shirley and Harvey decided to venture out to see the world, they got to visit many places with friends such as; Cruises in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe and her favorite trip – Holy City, Jerusalem and tour “Footsteps of Jesus”.

Wanting to be closer to family brought them to Sherwood Park in 2010. Many happy times were spent together at birthdays, celebrations, and holidays, as being with family was a very important part of her life. She would often talk about the special times God gave her, having the ability to spend time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren – each of them were very precious to her. Shirley and Harvey got to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a very memorable family trip to Mexico.

In Shirley’s spare time, which she did not have much of, she loved to; study the Bible – Shirley became a Seventh Day Adventist when she realized God’s truths for her life; crochet – many beautiful doilies were made and even table cloths; sew – some of her sewing projects were matching outfits for the children and baby blankets; bake – LOVED her pumpkin pie, poppy seed bread and cinnamon buns; and cook – everyone knew that if they were hungry Shirley’s house was the place to be, there was always enough food for all. She also had a great interest in studying health and passing on her vitamin wisdom to anyone who had an ailment.

God blessed Shirley and Harvey with 58 years of marriage and God remained a major focal point in their lives. Lately, one of her favorite things to say when she was going for a nap was – “I am not napping, I am Laying and Praying”, God and she were close. Shirley peacefully went to sleep on April 4, 2020. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Shirley’s memory will be cherished and never forgotten by her loving husband, Harvey; son, Darwin (Coralie) Banash – Rylan, Carson and Kaden; daughters, Charlene (Matthew) Hymanyk – Jayden and Bryson and Teresa (Michael) Hymanyk – Nathan and Rachel; grandson, Crayton (Nikki) White – Addison, Brooklyn and Joshua; and many other family members and friends. Also, she is survived by daughter, Janelle (James) White – Gaylene

Jesus said, “And this is the will of my Father who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have everlasting life; and I will raise them up at the last day. John 6:40

Marion Frances Palamarek

On Thursday April 2, 2020, Marion Palamarek (née Comstock) passed away in her home at the age of 74. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Bob (of 48 years), sons Damon, Justin (Tina), Toban (Bailee), and two grandchildren Cameron and Arya. Marion was preceded by her parents Philip and Elizabeth Florence Comstock, and she leaves to mourn her siblings Allen, Jim, Eleanor, and younger “Big” brother Norm.

Marion will be remembered by many as a loving, kind-hearted, and thoughtful wife, mother, teacher, and friend. Her love and talent for gardening, sewing, crafts, and baking was only out matched by her tireless and selfless devotion to those around her. Always caring for and looking after those around her was her greatest gift, as well as her defining characteristic. As one to never shy away from hard work (ie. after raising three sons), and when most might be looking forward to their retirement, Marion decided to pursue her dream of higher education. At the age of 56, she completed her University Diploma and became a Teaching Assistant where she specialized in working with students with learning, language, and physical disabilities. Marion continued this work for nearly 15 more years until her retirement. Marion’s tireless devotion to her family, friends, and students will never be forgotten.

While Marion stalwartly struggled with cancer for the last four years of her life, it never defined her, nor conquered her spirit. For all the many who so lovingly supported her through this time (all the staff and nurses at the Cross-Cancer Institute and especially Dr. Smylie & Dr. Olsen to name but a few…), our family is forever grateful.

In keeping with Marion’s wishes (and due to COVID 19 regulations) there will be no service. An informal gathering to celebrate Marion’s life will be held at a later date.

For those of you wishing to pay your respects, Marion has asked that in place of cards, flowers, or the like that a donation be made in her honour to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Marion will be greatly missed by both her family and friends, but she will forever live on in our hearts and memories.

We love you Marion (Mom & Grandma).

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Heinke, his children: Dana, Tara (Andrew), Hayley and, his granddaughters Keira and Zoe. Morley is also survived by his sisters Diane, Shirley, Adeline, brother Gene (Maureen) and many cousins, nephews, nieces and dear sisters in law. Morley was predeceased by his parents George and Helen, brothers, David and Melvin, and sister Sonia.

Morley was born in Lamont, Alberta on his family’s farm but moved to Edmonton in his youth. He worked for 41 years at Ronald’s/Quebecor Printing, retiring in 2008. He was a ‘Jack of All Trades’ a wood worker, mechanic, plumber, electrician, cook, vintner, farmer, gardener and painter; he liked to fix things, he liked to fix them well. He loved astrology, camping, mushroom picking, anything that meant going on an adventure, including his outings to Superstore! Morley was one of a kind, loving, dedicated, sometimes fiery and impatient. Aunty Lena would say, a good boy.

Over the last few years his health had ups and downs and, in the end, he was tired and went out how he wanted, when he wanted. He was made of tough stuff and we all loved and respected him, it has broken our hearts to say goodbye.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date so, for now, we say, dasvidaniya comrades.
